As El Confidencial Digital has learned , the General Council of Spanish Lawyers has sent a report to the Ministry of Finance with all the specifications that they do not share in the new regulations of the Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering. The new regulations will force law firms to ensure the prevention of money laundering by creating anti-money laundering technical units or training employees, with all the costs that this entails. However, the 2010 Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering provides for the possibility for lawyers to have, like notaries and registrars, their own Centralized Prevention Body (OCP) of money laundering. Currently, the General Council of Notaries and the College of Registrars of Spain have an OCP that refers directly to the Executive Service for the Prevention of Money Laundering (SEPBLAC). For its part, the CGAE only has a Commission for the Prevention of Money Laundering whose only tasks are training, study and dissemination of consultations. For this reason, lawyers demand their own OCP. The CGAE has carried out a survey of two thousand lawyers, of which 80% have rated the creation of a centralized prevention body as very interesting. As ECD has learned , the CGAE will appeal the royal decree of the regulation that is scheduled to be published in March and that the Treasury is drafting. The legal profession demands its own OCP that represents all the assigned lawyers, that analyzes and transmits to the SEPBLAC the operations susceptible to money laundering.
